Fasting for Ayurvedic Weight Loss

1. Lime Honey Fast:
Fast 1 day a week with lime-honey water. Every 90 minutes, enjoy one cup of warm water mixed with the juice of ½ lime and one teaspoon of honey. The next day, break the fast with fresh raw fruits, nuts, and whole-grain crackers.

2. Apple Fast:
The day before the fast eat lightly and take Triphala with dinner. The day of the fast, eat one apple at the following times: 6AM, 9AM, 1PM, 4PM, 7PM
Optional – Replace apple with glass of carrot juice. This fast will stimulate the digestive fire and incresease elimination of ama.

3. Fasting for Prakruti:
Kapha – 1x/week. Kapha can fast once a week to help maintain weight and eliminate toxins before they start to build.

Pitta – 1x/month. Apply internal cleansing therapy to eliminate toxin build-up once a month. The apple or carrot juice fast is recommended for Pitta.

Vata – 1x/ 6 months. Vata does not need to fast more than twice a year and it should be a mild fast including fruit drinks. The biannual cleanse is to eliminate the toxins that trap the fat in the body and lead to degeneration of the mind and body.
